A synapse is a small gap at the end of a neuron that allows information to pass from one neuron to the next.  Neurons are the basic information processing structures in the central nervous system.  Synapses are the connections between neurons through which "information" flows from one neuron to another.  They are thought to be crucial to the biologic computations that underlie perception and thought. more about you.
